Specifying the software products to track |
|
The raw data that is collected by the auditing agents for ENT Server will probably include a lot of information which, although useful in certain contexts, is not relevant for the purposes of analyzing software license compliance.
For example, the auditing agents will collect information about hardware drivers and freeware products which are installed on the computers that you manage. This information is certainly useful to the helpdesk for troubleshooting problems, and so we do not want to loose that information, but you probably don’t want it to be included in software legitimacy reports or software license analysis reports.
For this purpose, we can use the “Track Licensing” field for software products to indicate which software products we would like to include in software legitimacy reports and which should be excluded.

Setting the Track Licensing field for a product to “Don’t Track” (i.e. unchecking it) enables you to filter out a lot of the noise in software legitimacy reports about products that you’re not interested in from a licensing perspective, without loosing/removing information about these products from your inventory all together. In this way, you can retain information in your inventory about the installations of products which don’t require licenses – information which could be invaluable to helpdesk technicians when troubleshooting problems.
