Security can be either a very simple or a very complex topic…

If you have a single PC in a locked cell that has no connections to the outside world and you're the only one with a key, then securing your system will be fairly simple.

If you have a LAN with a number of systems that nobody needs to access from anywhere but on the premises, securing these systems should not to be taken lightly.

If you have people from other companies wandering around the physical location that your network covers or if you maintain multiple networks that contain certain systems which are potentially accessible to the outside world at large, then it might be beneficial to have a team of individuals devoted to security considerations associated with managing that equipment.

Here we'll cover a bit of information that will be generally useful regardless of your particular situation and then we'll go on to give some more specific examples that will be of use to different folks.
