Probably the easiest way to understand the performance and security topics discussed above is by way of example. As such, we'll present a couple of different examples below so that you can see by analogy, to one or more of these examples, how you can implement an auditing solution on your network which is both effective and secure.
We'll start by taking a look at deploying a network auditing solution using Enterprise Server Desktop Edition in a fairly simple LAN environment. After that, we'll look at using the Corporate Edition of the software to provide helpdesk/inventory access to IT Staff and customers outside the LAN proposing one of two different models. Finally, we'll look at how to deploy the software on a (potentially large) distributed WAN network with computers on multiple networks that we want to audit.
