Once our auditing agent has collected information about a computer, this information has to be sent back to our Enterprise Server somehow, if it is to be of any use to the IT staff who manage that equipment. Unlike the PC Audit however, this post back involves only a single transfer of a very concrete amount of information. Uncompressed, a typical audit snapshot will range from 20kb to 40kb in size and both ENT NetCenter and ENT Network Monitor (which are the two components that can be used to perform this transfer) will compress this down to around 10% of its original size.
As you can appreciate, the post back of the audit snapshot involves the transfer of considerably less information that the actual PC audit itself which is a fact that we can use to our advantage when we want to audit machines over slow or expensive WAN and Internet connections.
