PC Auditing - Technical Challenges
Top  Previous  Next

EntAudit.exe is a great deal simpler than the network auditing agents (ENT NetCenter and ENT Network Monitor), since it does not have to establish any network connection to the machine that it will be auditing (which simplifies security and communication problems).

In addition, unlike the network auditing agents, after having audited a machine EntAudit.exe does not post the information that it collects back to ENT Server – so no network connection is required whatsoever in order to be able to use EntAudit.exe to audit the computers that you manage. This is the main reason this tool exists, in fact – it allows us to audit machines which might not be accessible otherwise via any of your organization's networks.

This makes EntAudit.exe a very useful tool for certain situations; however it also presents its own technical challenges:

·When using EntAudit.exe to audit windows computers, EntAudit.exe must be deployed/run on each of the machines that you want to audit
·Once EntAudit.exe has audited a machine, we have to work out a way of getting the information that it collects back to our central IT Asset repository (ENT Server) so that it is available to the technicians and managers on our IT Staff
