Software Installs Overview

Top  Previous  Next

There are two different types of information that you can store about the software that you own and use:

1.The software products that you own/use can be recorded in the Software Licensing area of ENT Server, along with any assets that you hold for these products (licenses, media or contracts).

2.The individual instances (installations) of those software products on each machine can be recorded from the software page of the machine details dialog.

The second of these two types of information, software installations, is essentially the association of a particular software product with a particular machine. ENT Server also allows you record details like when the software was installed, by who and the exact version of the software product installed on each particular machine. However, the most basic information about a software installation is simply that Product A is installed on Machine B (or alternatively that Machine B has Product A installed on it, depending on which way you want to look at it).

The last sentence is probably a pretty good summary of what the Software Installs area of ENT NetCenter is for. The software installs area allows you to view all the instances/installations of software products on your network and group these by Machine, Publisher and/or Product which allows you to see all of the products installed on each of the machines that you manage or, if you group by one of the later, all of the machines on which a particular product is installed.

You can access the Software Installs area by selecting the Software Installs icon on the Inventory menu.

This will take you to the Software Installs page.

You can then see a list of all the software installs that you have recorded in your inventory and group/sort this information how you like, depending on whether your interested in finding the machines that a particular product is installed on or vice versa.

Deleting software installs

If you want to remove a particular software installation, you can of course do this from the machine details dialog. However, you can also do this quickly from the Software Installs area itself - simply select the installation(s) that you want to delete from the software installs grid and click on the Delete button on the toolbar.
