Preparing Windows 2000/XP/2003 for auditing

The following discusses how to prepare machines running Windows 2000/XP/2003 to be audited using Microforge.net Enterprise Server.

Article Details

You should be able to audit machines running the Windows 2000, XP and 2003 operating systems without any special configuration. Windows XP Home edition does not support remote WMI connections (you can use our command line auditing utility EntAudit.exe to audit machines running this operating system).

If you are having trouble auditing machines that are running Windows XP, and the machine where ENT NetCenter is installed is running Windows 2000 then you should read our knowledge base article:
Auditing Windows XP systems from Windows 2000.

Additionally, if you have Windows 2003 SP1 or Windows XP SP2 installed on any of the machines that you are trying to audit, you will have to make sure that the machine is configured to allow remote administration. For further information, please refer to our knowledge base article:
RPC Server Unavailable when auditing machines running Windows 2003 or XP SP2

Finally, if you're getting access denied error messages or for any other problems, the following PDF document contains a list of things to check on both the machine from which you are conducting audits and the machine which you are trying to audit:
