This article contains a summary of what is required to be able to audit the machines on your network.
In order to audit machines on your network Enteprise Server uses the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) service, which is built into the latest generation of the Windows operating sytems. Although not included in early versions of Microsoft Windows (such as Windows 95/98/NT4) WMI can be installed as an operating system upgrade on these machines.
For some machines on your network (such as those running Windows 2000 or Windows XP SP1), you will probably not need to do anything at all in order to be able to audit these. For others however, you may need to ensure certain settings. The following articles describe in detail, for each operating system, how to ensure that each of the machines on your network is ready for auditing.
