Emails and Articles are appearing blank, possibly after applying "Windows XP Hotfix - KB891781"

This article discusses problems viewing and editing articles and messages in ENT NetCenter after applying "Windows XP Hotfix - KB891781".

Article Details

In February 2005 Microsoft released Windows XP Hotfix - KB891781 , which basically blocks access to their DHTML OCX component which we were using for the WYSIWYG HTML editing controls in ENT NetCenter. As a result, after applying this hotfix, users of ENT NetCenter 1.2.9 and earlier may not be able to open emails or articles in ENT NetCenter - attempting to do so may result in an error (most likely a safecall exception or something to the effect: "Interface not supported").

ENT NetCenter 1.2.10 should completely resolve this problem and in the majority of cases, simply upgrading to the latest version of Enterprise Server (and making sure you have the latest version of windows clients such as ENT NetCenter) should be all you need to do.

However, the fix that was implemented in ENT NetCenter 1.2.10 will only work on systems that have an undamaged installation of Internet Explorer 5.0 or later. You may continue to have problems with ENT NetCenter 1.2.10 if there are problems with the instllation of Internet Explorer on the machine where ENT NetCenter is installed. In this case, please refer to Microsoft knowledge base article KB318378: How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP.
